Motorhome Recalls

From time to time RV manufacturers find themselves having to recall certain models or their installed equipment due to safety issues. If you own a motorhome, especially if you didn’t buy it new then you should check frequently to see if your rig or any of its equipment has been recalled.

If you are considering buying a motorhome then you should especially check on the model you will be purchasing because in some cases insurance companies will not insure a vehicle that has been recalled until the appropriate work has been undertaken.

There is a list of the most recently recalled models over at the Motorhome Magazine web site. I believe they update this list on a monthly basis.

If you really need to check out if a certain rig has ever been recalled then you need to look up the make and model in the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic & Safety Administration) Recalls, Defects and Complaints Database. http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov

We own a 2003 Condor Class A by R-Vision, we purchased it new. In 2006 the emergency break malfunctioned and the vehicle would not move out of a parked position. A mechanical pin underneath had to be dislodged in order to get the vehicle into a driveable status. $2,000 dollars later, it was fixed. Picked it up last March 2007. Used it from Memorial Day 2007 to Sept 2007. Then it sat from Sept 07 to May 2008. Memorial Day w/e 2008 drove from Long Island to CT. On way home from Strawberry Park in CT, on Rte I-95 just outside of New Haven, we parked vehicle for a bite to eat at a rest stop, got back in, started up vehicle and AGAIN same thing happened! %*#& Dropped it off to be serviced, was told this time it was the pump not getting any power. $500.00 later supposedly fixed. TODAY 6/19 vehicle was taken out again for a camping trip and SAME THING HAPPENED. Stopped for gas, engine off, when engine started, vehichle would not move!

Checked for recalls, there are none!

Anybody else out there experiencing this??
